The research program develops new mathematical and statistical methods and applies them to solving environmental and ecological challenges. Mathematical and statistical methods involve dynamical systems, and techniques for parameter estimation and inference. Ecological and environmental challenges include modelling animal movement patterns under human disturbance, predicting changes in population distributions under climate change, evaluating and controlling disease interactions between aquaculture and wild salmon, and controlling the spread of chronic wasting disease in deer. Much of the work is interdisciplinary and collaborative with field biologists. This research will provide methods for enhancing environmental stewardship and tools for environmental decision making.
