As society approaches the ultimate limits of computing, communication, and measurement, we will reach a point where each bit of information is carried by a single quantum particle. Such quantum devices will be able to perform critical tasks no conceivable non-quantum device could. Using the photon as its quantum information carrier, this project is working towards demonstrating these tasks by leveraging the revolution in photonics technology that has occurred over the last decade. Two example goals are quantum-enhanced sensors with dramatically higher sensitivity and a device to model molecules, which is key to the development, for example, of drugs.
