英文摘要
Electronic waste is the world's fastest growing solid waste stream. The Greentec Industrial Research Chair for Colleges in Advanced Recycling Technologies for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment at Conestoga College will focus on improving e-waste recycling processes to maximize material recovery. This research will result in new products that can be manufactured by local equipment manufacturers as well as new processes that will generate value and cost savings across a range of manufacturing operations. The results of this research will be of value to electronic recyclers, manufacturing industries and postsecondary institutions, and will support policy makers as they develop strategies to enhance economic prosperity and environmental sustainability. This five-year IRCC research program includes two project streams: Robotic Dismantling and Recycling involves innovative solutions such as smart robots capable of adapting to various environments, and recycling robots with enhanced capabilities for de-manufacturing applications. Sensor-Based Sorting Technologies focuses on developing cost-effective solutions and higher yields for e-waste recyclers through increased productivity of processes and purity of end products. The Industrial Research Chair, Dr. Hamid Karbasi, P. Eng. is ideally suited for this role. His exemplary academic and research track record in a polytechnic setting provide the necessary foundation for him to champion innovative projects and commercialization opportunities with industry partners. This IRCC initiative is supported by Conestoga's Centre for Smart Manufacturing, Centre for Entrepreneurship, and Office of Applied Research and Innovation. The University of Waterloo will serve as a collaborator. Research activities are supported through substantial financial and in-kind commitments from industry partners.
