英文摘要
Ultraleap (UK) has developed and patented ultrasound technology, which can project touch sensations through the air and directly onto users, providing them with tactile interactions. Users can feel touchless buttons, get feedback for mid-air gestures, and interact with virtual objects. Digital Media companies like Stitch Media (Canada) can use this technology to create more immersive, engaging virtual worlds for people to interact in, or better learning environments for students. However, creating engaging haptic feedback takes a diverse set of technical expertise, making it difficult for storytellers, designers, and developers to use this technology in new experiences. We propose to use generative algorithms, which enable computer systems to produce potential content, to help people create haptic design. Our approach will put the human-in-the-loop, enabling creators to work with haptic feedback without technical expertise. For example, a designer might use emotional language ("happy", "exciting") to produce an initial set of interesting designs, then find better designs by finding similar or complementary sensations. This project could pioneer tools to enable anyone to work with mid-air haptic technology.
