This Chair program will develop a wide range of novel technologies for joining and processing advanced materials. These technologies will enable the assembly and manufacturing of 3D printed nanomaterial devices for water treatment, light-weight but strong automobile body structures, defect-free aerospace engine parts, highly reliable implantable pacemakers, and faster nanoelectronic memory chips. This program will train future generations of engineers and scientists to strengthen Canada¿s manufacturing competitiveness, and reinforce University of Waterloo¿s position as a world leader in welding and joining research through its unique activities in nanojoining and microjoining, and through collaborations with Canadian and international companies and universities.
