Combining mathematics, biology, physics and engineering, Dr. Dickerson aims to prevent shoulder damage before it begins. By integrating newly-defined tissue tolerance data with high-fidelity simulations, Dr. Dickerson will create new solutions to avoid shoulder disorders. This includes identifying how consumer product manufacturing, user-centred product design, and workplace layouts affect shoulders. These findings will be applied to insights on modifiers of shoulder function, such as compensatory movements, muscular fatigue and aging. The research approaches fundamental causes of shoulder damage and motivates changes in interfaces, workplace design, and daily usage to ensure optimal shoulder function and improve quality of life for all Canadians.
