Quantum mechanics governs the behaviour of atoms and molecules that make up matter as we know it. In pursuit of new materials, Dr. LeBlanc studies carefully controlled samples of ultracold atomic gases to understand how the rules of quantum mechanics lead to magnets, superfluids, and new materials not seen before. Using these lessons, she will also explore how these cold atoms can interface with solid state quantum systems through electromagnetic interactions, and discover how to exploit these powerful quantum systems for technologies that store, control, and manipulate quantum information for the successor to today¿s internet, a quantum network.
