Westcott's research program provides ongoing efforts to examine boron compounds as green alternatives to present resources in the chemical, agricultural and pharmaceutical industries. As the world moves towards greener ideologies, a considerable amount of research has focused on the development of environmentally-friendly methodologies to be used in all aspects of industry. The relatively non-toxic nature of boron compounds makes them ideal candidates for potentially green pesticides, fungicides, parasiticides, organic synthons, and as drug candidates. It is critically important both economically and environmentally to pursue this opportunity to improve living conditions around the world.
