The Canadian Institute of Nuclear Physics (CINP) is a formal organization of the Canadian nuclear physics research community to promote excellence in nuclear research and education, and to advocate the interests and goals of the community both domestically and abroad. Since its inception in 2008, the CINP has experienced tremendous growth, and now is a mature institution with a significant impact upon the Canadian subatomic physics landscape. The CINP presently has 119 Individual Members across Canada, representing researchers whose work covers all aspects of experimental and theoretical nuclear physics. The membership includes an almost complete set of NSERC-eligible researchers in nuclear physics across Canada and its broad base allows the CINP to effectively co-ordinate planning on a national scale, and exchange information within and between its various subfields. As such, the CINP addresses issues of national and international significance to nuclear physics researchers in Canada, and is a resource to our scientific community that is not otherwise available at any other Canadian university, laboratory or institute. The MRS thematic-institute support requested in this application reflects this evolution in our vision of the Institute, as well as the need for efficient operations within a constrained subatomic physics envelope. Our envisioned role of the CINP includes: gathering and providing input for the next Subatomic Physics Long Range Plan, continuing our presentations on behalf of the community to groups such as SAPES, TRIUMF and NuPECC, providing support for conferences and workshops pertaining to nuclear physics research, enabling undergraduate, graduate students and PDFs to present their work at conferences and specialized workshops, providing research opportunities for undergraduate students, and supporting graduate students through a modest fellowship program.
