英文摘要
Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) is similar to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in that it amplifies a target DNA to detect the presence of bacteria, viruses, or fungi. A version of PCR was highlighted in the COVID-19 pandemic for its ability to detect minute levels of virus in patient samples. Yet PCR has several disadvantages when applied to mass testing: it requires specialized training and expensive equipment and enzymes. Testing level is limited by machine capacity. Detecting a positive result requires specialized detection and analysis.LAMP is a method that performs the same function as PCR, but in a fast, efficient, and more cost-effective way. LAMP tests can be run without specialized equipment or training, and detection is by a colour change. LAMP sensitivity is excellent, and can detect microbial contamination from various surfaces. Using new methods of enzyme generation and purification, we are making a LAMP kit for the baking industry to avoid spoilage. This Lab2Market I2I Market Assessment will allow us to look at all the industries that we might impact: livestock, produce, surfaces, and biomedical applications. Our market assessment will also allow us to consider requirements of Canadian and American regulatory bodies including Health Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and consider packaging and distribution within various sectors. Our LAMP enzymes and kit components will provide an opportunity for immediate and high-level detection required by various industries with linked market considerations.
