英文摘要
A large portion of buildings in Canada are built with structural steel framing to resist both gravity and lateral loads. Lateral loads due to wind and earthquakes can be resisted by steel moment-resisting frames, which consist of horizontal elements (beams) and vertical elements (columns) that are rigidly connected together. Although this system is one of the most desirable for the construction of building structures, several factors associated with their constructability, cost-effectiveness and structural performance limit the use of such systems in the construction of buildings. This research project aims to develop a new steel structural system using the modular construction methodology to improve structural performance and more importantly to enhance construction efficiency, thus reducing the environmental impact of construction materials and improving productivity (reduced time and cost) for the construction of mid- and high-rise buildings in Canada. This will be achieved through comprehensive full-scale structural testing, advanced numerical simulations and construction process analyses. In collaboration with the industry partners, the project will lead to design, fabrication, transportation and erection recommendations to be used by structural engineering firms and steel fabricators in the Canadian construction industry.
