In stroke care, "time is brain", and every second counts when diagnosing and treating a patient in order to save the most brain tissue possible. In order to make a treatment decision, an important measurement to quantify is the blood flow rate to the affected tissue. Currently, the imaging techniques used to make this measurement are either not widely available, too expensive or are too slow, and are therefore not ideal for determining blood perfusion measurements. Our solution, the Simple Perfusion Reconstruction Algorithm (SPIRAL) allows for the measurement of blood flow from an existing scan that is widely available to most care centers, and does so in a safer, cheaper, and faster process.
