We propose a new type of solar 'panel' design, a hollow cylinder with the photovoltaic material on the cylinder's outer surface. This design aims to easily 'slip' the panel over transmission wires. This would expose to sunlight the outer surface of the cylindrical panel containing the photovoltaic material, and they can produce additional electrical power.In addition, third generation solar cells are known to produce more electrical power in the presence of magnetic fields without changing the materials used in the cell. The idea here therefore is to use the magnetic fields generated around transmission wires (essentially waste energy) to create a more efficient solar panel. In doing so, we are also converting waste energy into useful energy, making the (wire + solar panel) system more efficient. Lastly, the problems associated with large solar projects that can help in addressing climate change are costs related to land acquisition (for installing solar panels), skilled labour that can install and connect the panels to the grid, and the time taken (of the highly skilled labour) to install each panel. Here the land is already owned by the power transmission authority (added source of income from solar power), the solar panels are simple to install, are self-contained with the necessary circuitry, and installing each panel on a wire is a simple task of slipping the cylinder onto the wire.
