L2M NSERC - GEM: Gold nanoparticle Embedded paper Membrane for highly sensitive immunoassays

The proposed Market Assessment project is for conducting viable market analysis for our recently developed Gold nanoparticle Embedded paper Membrane (GEM) technology. Highly sensitive bioassays are required for many applications, such as early disease diagnostics. However, existing assays suffer from high cost, inflexibility, and require specialized skills. Hence, we developed GEM as a convenient and low-cost method for performing highly sensitive bioassays to overcome these limitations. The proposed project will obtain essential data, such as the potential market size, applications, potential customers and their buying habits, how much the customers would like to pay, and competitions. The data will help us determine the next steps towards commercializing this technology, e.g., starting a new company or to licensing the GEM technology to an existing company. In this project, the graduate student will also be trained to conduct the market assessment and have opportunities to interact with potential stakeholders and industry experts.
