This project establishes a partnership renewal between Innofibre and Kruger inc. for the development of a novel bioactive paper for food packaging at pilot scale. To this end, different bioactive formulations, surface treatments and distinct manufacturing processes will be investigated. The work that will be performed to achieve the project scope is composed of laboratory and pilot paper surface treatment trials with multidisciplinary sample testing. Kruger's strategic plan is to achieve its vision, being the leader in innovative food packaging products, technologies, and services. Committed to a sustainable and better future, the strategic goal of expanding beyond its core communication newsprint paper business, where demand is declining, and strategic objectives of positioning itself as a supplier of choice in specialty paper markets with growing demand. Products and results of this project align with Kruger's strategic plan to ensure that it contributes to the overall objectives of the organization. This project will contribute to the training of the college students and Innofibre's workforce on bioactive papers' manufacturing development. The knowledge gained from this project will also enhance Kruger Specialty Papers knowledge to develop innovative and bioactive papers. This close collaboration between Innofibre and Kruger will promote the technology transfer throughout Kruger Bromptonville and Wayagamack facilities.
