L2M NSERC - All-weather Autonomous Delivery Robot

We are addressing the last-mile delivery problems by developing Canada's first all-weather autonomous delivery robots. Our robot is designed to operate primarily in a bike lane or sidewalks or on the shoulder of roads. It is 1.2 meter high and the same distance long, but a mere 0.8 meter wide. It weighs a total of 100 kg and achieves speeds of up to 10 mph. With six independently controlled lockers on its cabin, it can deliver multiple orders at one trip. It is the most cost-efficient solution for last-mile deliveries in the robot delivery market. It is driven by our cooperative hybrid driving system which consists of an autonomous driving feature, a remote driving feature, and a cooperative driving feature. This novel technique ensures all-weather autonomous delivery capability which differentiates our robot with other delivery robots in the market. Using our delivery robot, restaurants can save over 50% of commission fee and end-users can save at over 50% delivery fee. Our all-weather autonomous technology can reduce the frequency of collisions especially in winter conditions because there are no human occupants in the delivery robots and also it leads to overall fewer vehicle miles traveled, contributing to lower overall risk exposure to collisions.
