英文摘要
This research is focused on improving our understanding of transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM). tPBM involves shining a low-level laser or light-emitting diode on the head. While studies on the biological benefits of tPBM date back to the 1960's, clinical translation has been limited by uncertainties regarding how well it works and how to tune the parameters to optimize the light penetration to the cortex. In this proposal, we use advanced magnetic resonance imaging and electroencephalography to record the brain's response to varying levels of stimulation. We will measure the brain's blood flow and metabolic rates with and without tPBM. The outcome will help establish the clinical utility of tPBM and also help to optimize the design and use of tPBM for personalized medicine.
