本研究尝试拓展政治地理学的研究范畴，将政治地理学理论及其分析方法应用于中国社会管理问题的分析。借鉴领域、尺度等政治地理概念分析中国社会管理中的领域性及尺度策略。实证研究中领域分析主要以广东、重庆为案例，尺度政治分析主要以乌坎选举、番禺垃圾处理厂选址等近年发生的典型社会事件为案例，剖析中国社会事件管理中的尺度博弈机制。依据分析结果，拟建立以领域管理为基础的中国社会管理理论模式，并进而提出针对性政策建议。本研究在理论上旨在推广以领域分析为代表的新政治地理学研究方法，并确认其在中国社会管理分析中的有效性；在实证上则意图通过上述理论方法的运用，推进中国的社会-空间一体化研究及其认识，同时为中国社会管理提供基于地理学的理论基础和政策建议。本研究主要采用领域政治、尺度政治、事件过程分析等质性研究方法，这些方法在国内的运用尚不普遍，在这方面本研究也有探索的性质。

The project tries to expand the researchscale of political geography by applying theories and analytical methods of political geography to the research of Chinese society-governance system. Borrowing from the analytical methods of Western neo-political geography such as the scale of politics, the territory of politics, the project will change the society-governance issue into issue of spatial politics. In the empirical research, the authors are going to use the the framework of the territory of politics, focus Guangdong and Chongqing as cases, analysis the recent changes on reforms of society-governance systems. And use the framework of the scale of politics, to investigate the systematic characteristics and the existing problems of society-governance via studying the cases of social movements. Furthermore, on the basis of the cases analysis, the authors will explore and discuss the dynamics of the place of politics, and provide specific advice on policy making. Theoretically, the project tries to summarize the validity of application of political geography to research of social issues. Empirically, via a series of cases analysis, the authors wish to locate the problems in Chinese society-governance and so to promote its smooth reforms. Methodologically, the project will employ qualitative research methods such as such as the scale of politics, the territory of politics, event-process analysis. These methods are not widely used yet in the research field and they are also exploratory in the current study.
