The normal assembly and disaggregation of the synaptonemal complex (SC) is crucial for the precise separation of meiotic chromosomes, the assembly and dysfunction of SC are closely related to human infertility, pregnancy-induced abortions and neonatal defects (eg trisomy syndrome). The HORMA proteins and the cohesin complexes are core components of the meiosis chromosomal axis and are essential for SC assembly. It is reported that there is a close correlation between the two complexes in terms of function and localization, however, whether there is a direct interaction between them and whether they have any significance for the meiosis process remains to be elucidated. In this project, the molecular basis of the interaction between the cohesin complexes and the HORMA proteins was analyzed using Caenorhabditis elegans as the research system. The influence of the interactions between the two complexes on the meiosis chromosomal axis formation, SC assembly and dynamics, and homologous recombination were studied in vivo, and further explore the effect of post-translational modification of proteins on the interaction between complexes. Preliminary results indicate that there is a direct interaction between the two complexes, so we speculate that this interaction is critical to the assembly and process of meiosis. A series of studies will be conducted to test this hypothesis. This study will provide new insights for understanding the basis of assembly of the association complex and the regulatory mechanism of the meiosis process.
