Siple-Coast Ice Stream Response to Atmospheric CO2 Variation

本研究的目的是：1).建立一个基于物理的、可测试的南极西部冰流解析有限元模型；2).参数化大气和海洋对冰盖质量平衡的重要控制（包括可能的冰盖地形/地表气流反馈）；3)对西南极洲对未来“温室”变暖的反应进行预测（并与记录在案的过去行为进行比较，作为信心测试）。要求资金用于支持博士后、研究生和教师的工资、设备、旅行和计算机支持。

The purposes of this research are to: 1). produce a physically based, testable ice-stream resolving finite- element model of West Antarctic, 2). parameterize important atmospheric and oceanic controls on ice-sheet mass balance (including the possible ice-sheet topography/surface-airflow feedback), and 3). conduct forecasts of West Antarctica's response to future "greenhouse" warming (and comparisons with documented past behavior serving as confidence tests). Funds are requested to support postdoctoral, graduate student and faculty salaries, equipment, travel and computer support.
