Conditioning of the Support Medium and Face Support in Tunneling with Earth-Pressure-Balance-Shields (A04)

The aim of Subproject A4 is a constitutive model for the support medium of Earth-Pressure-Shields based on rheological experiments. The scale of the experiments is widened to real-scale and the investigated types of ground will include the whole field of application of this type of machine including rock. Further, a new experiment to determine the workability of the muck will be developed so that even cohesive and extremely coarse ground can be tested. Further goals are the extension of the application range of EPB shields by conditioning with a new artificial soil and experiments to support the numerical simulations of the muck transport inside the excavation chamber in Subproject C4.
