消息传递接口（Message Passing Interface， MPI）是近10年来被科学并行应用社区广泛使用的通信软件事实上的标准。当前标准有一个核心例程，用于点对点和单侧数据交换、阻塞集体通信例程、远程并行文件访问和动态过程控制。此外，它还提供对派生数据类型、通信上下文、过程组和虚拟过程拓扑等特性的支持。然而，多核和异构芯片的到来给科学界带来了巨大的挑战，因为他们正在新的计算平台上移植和优化现有的应用程序。提议的消息传递接口论坛将继续关注增强MPI在MIMD计算系统中进程间传递数据、并行远程文件操作和此类并行应用程序的动态进程控制的活动。该论坛的工作将产生一种通信标准，适合于解决下一代计算设施在peta级及以上级别上的应用需求

Message Passing Interface (MPI) is de-facto standard for communications software used by scientific parallel applications community well over last 10 years. The current standard has a core of routines used for point-to-point and one-sided data exchange, blocking collective communications routines, remote parallel file access and dynamic process control. In addition, it provides support for features such as derived data types, communications contexts, process groups, and virtual process topologies. However, arrival of multicore- and heterogeneous chips pose a significant challenge for scientific community as they are porting and optimizing existing applications on new computational platforms.The proposed Message Passing Interface Forum addresses the continuation of activity focused on enhancing the MPI for passing data between processes in a MIMD computing system, for parallel remote file operations and for dynamic process control of such parallel application programs. The work of this forum will produce a communications standard suitable for addressing the needs of applications on the next generation computing facilities at the Peta-Scale level and beyond
