The objective of the submitted project is to ascertain a new macro-mechanical model implemented in the FEM. This model realizes an effective approach for the minimization of costs caused by corrosion. As arises from the state of the art, the susceptibility to corrosion, particularly of steel, is considerably influenced by the nearsurface residual stresses. With the knowledge of the residual stress behavior induced by the forming process simulation and the material-specific corrosion behavior, a model for a defined corrosion system is to be developed. Using this model the susceptibility to corrosion within a defined system can be numerically estimated before the fabrication of the components. This circumstance is the basis for the development and adaption of the forming process in relation to the residual stress and resulting corrosion behavior. Thereby, a reduction of costs in the early development phase of a new product is possible and, for defined application conditions, corrosion-resistant end products can be produced with the support of numeric process optimization. The material, the environment influencing the corrosion, for example the corrosive and the physical properties, and the time-dependent damage progress have to be considered as essential characteristics of the corrosion system. Therefore, applications in the offshore sector are predestined as defined and practice-orientated corrosion systems.
