The constant demand for new and more complex enantiopure pharmaceutical drugs has made enantioselective organic methodology a high growth area, which is supported by academic granting agencies. In this context, the discovery and development of sustainable enantioselective methods (reduced environmental impact chemistry) is a current and ever increasing theme within chemistry. In this context water is an interesting solvent because of its availability and potential for allowing the development of green methods. This project fits into the above noted themes and is a request to develop promising organocatalysts for aldol and related reactions. The forwarding looking goal of this project is to allow greater design flexibility with improved efficiency for the synthesis of pharmaceutical drugs and natural products with reduced environmental impact.
