The focus of TP4 (Research group Ziegmann) is to investigate the influence of nanoparticle (NP) in resin systems regarding the process and part manufacturing. The critical research aspects of the TP4 are focused on the process technological design of material (NP suspension and preform) regarding the important material (filament distance, permeability) and process parameters (draping, compaction) as well as development of new impregnation strategies in Liquid Composite Molding (LCM) processes for the manufacturing of complex fiber composite structures with defined nanoparticle distribution, in order to achieve targeted locally adjustable property profiles. In the second funding period, the concepts that are developed based on the plane laminates will be transferred to adjustment of the gradient in complex structures. For the manufacturing of complex structures, a binder system is necessary for the draping and fixing of textiles on the complex shaped tools. In parallel to conventional binder systems, a new, epoxy-solvable, electrospun, thermoplastic supporting fiber for nanoparticles (Nano Carrier Fiber) will be investigated (development in TP1, research group Sturm/Silbernagl), which could be used as local binder and also as local nanoparticle reinforcement in critical positions in the final structures. The research critical aspects include description of the macro/microporosity of the textiles, permeability investigation in all the three major directions, flow and filtration behavior of the nanoparticles, the flow and cure simulation, as well as visualization of the flow behavior of the nanoparticle, to more specifically, the particle movement during the impregnation process. The investigations in TP4 are based closely on the results from TP1 and TP3 and will deliver in turn the basics to research works of TP2, 5 and 6.
