Hybridization of reduced dimensionality with nontrivial geometry and topology in complex tree-dimensional semiconductor structures fabricated using the strain-driven roll-up technology is a rich source of new phonon physics. The project is devoted to theoretical modeling of the Brillouin-Mandelstam scattering (BMS) and validation of an experimental BMS platform for characterization of novel rolled-up micro- and nanoarchitectures. The proponents at the IIN, IFW Dresden possess recognized complementary expertise in their respective fields of micro- and nanoarchitectures: theoretical analysis (theory of phonon spectra in low-dimensional structures based on the elastodynamic theory and the Lattice Dynamics numerical approach), high-tech fabrication (strain-driven roll-up technology) and optical characterization. The experience available at the cooperating Phonon Optimized Engineered Materials Center (POEM), UC-Riverside will be important and helpful to boost establishing the BMS experimental platform at the IIN, IFW Dresden. Verification and interpretation of the obtained phonon spectra will be performed by comparing the calculations conducted at the IIN, IFW Dresden and in the group at the Moldova State University (MSU), Chisinau in continuation of their long-standing cooperation.A synergy of their research efforts will be the cornerstone for the success of the present project aimed at getting insight in the phonon-assisted phenomena in advanced micro- and nanoarchitectures and developing an effective tool of their characterization. The key goals of the present project are of major relevance to the combined advancements of both fundamental science and applicative scope of nanophononics.
