Studies on a program of dental health education for mothers with infants

本研究旨在探讨幼儿母亲的口腔卫生行为与口腔卫生需求。研究对象为1994年2月至4月在广岛社区卫生中心递交妊娠通知书的1468名孕妇。在口腔健康行为评价工具HU-DBI的基础上，增加了口腔健康的需要和顾虑等内容，分别于怀孕初期、产后4个月、9个月、18个月进行问卷调查。对回答问卷的母亲每次都邮寄有关妇幼口腔健康的宣传单。分析对象为614位母亲（平均年龄28.0岁，在怀孕早期），谁回答了所有的问卷邮寄。主要结果如下：1.产后HU-DBI平均分显著高于产前。讨论了孕期口腔健康指导的重要性，特别从预防牙周病的角度强调了对母亲牙龈的指导。2.母亲对口腔健康的需求较高，比如说绝大多数的妈妈都希望做口腔健康检查，3.母亲们从孩子出生后大约9个月开始就非常关心孩子的口腔健康。这些发现表明，从怀孕到分娩后18个月，系统地对母亲进行牙齿健康教育。

The purpose of this study was to examine the dental health behavior and the needs toward the oral health among mothers with a young child. The subjects were 1468 pregnant women who gave in the notices of pregnancy at community health centers in Hiroshima from February to April in 1994. The questionnaires added the items such as the needs and conceins toward the oral health to HU-DBI,which was an instrument for assessing dental health behavior, were sent to the subjects four times (when they were early pregnant and at four, nine, and eighteen months after childbirth). The mother who answered a questionnaire was mailed the leaflet concerned with the maternal and child dental health every time. The analyzed subjects were 614 mothers (mean age 28.0 yrs at early pregnant), who replied to all of the questionnaires sent by mail. The main results were as follows :1.The mean score of HU-DBI was significantly greater after childbirth than before childbirth. The importance of giving dental health guidance at pregnant was discussed, especially laid emphasis on mother's gingiva from the point of view of preventing the periodontal disease.2.The needs toward oral health among mothers was high, for example a large majority of mothers hoped the oral health check-up for themselves.3.The mothers were much concerned with their child's oral health from about nine months after childbirth.These findings suggest that it is important to educate about dental health for mothers from being pregnant to eighteen months after childbirth systematically.
