In this project, we study field-theoretic structures underlying higher invariants. On the one hand, we consider specific invariants from global analysis, with the goal to construct free fermion theories as a twisted functorial field theory. On the other hand, we study higher categories which serve as targets for extended field theories, as the natural home for higher invariants which such a field theory assigns.
