Many electronic / digital library systems aiming at practical applications are recently being constructed. and their usage is internationally spreading. The spread is to promote digitization of scholarly information in general, thus they are widely affecting manner of distributing and utilizing scholarly information. This study, paying attention to international trends for scholarly information, which are driven by the popularization of electronic libraries, is to conduct fact finding surveys on electronic library systems in various countries, trend surveys on research and development for scholarly information processing, and investigation of related standardizing activities.
