Japanese-Swedish Cooperative Research on Bioseparation Science

在生物科学领域，生物大分子的分析和分离技术正在做出不可估量的贡献。通过瑞典乌普萨拉的科学家们的努力，基于那里培育的创造性概念，开发出了相当数量的此类技术。这些科学家被称为乌普萨拉分离科学学院。本项目的首席研究员高木俊夫教授在几十年前开始对乌普萨拉学派的传统感兴趣，因为他的研究领域过去和现在都与生物科学中的分离科学密切相关。他已经访问了乌普萨拉十二次，并与学校的第三代和第四代人建立了密切的友谊。同样在日本，我们也有许多研究人员参与并对生物分离科学领域感兴趣。本项目计划扩大日本，特别是大阪和乌普萨拉在该领域的联系。在目前的研究补助金的支持下，双方各有几名研究人员有机会访问对方的实验室进行实验、交流讨论和举办研讨会。这次学术交流使参与的研究人员发起了几个合作研究项目。目前的项目只持续了两年，但其后遗症据信持续了很长时间，因为它计划涉及双方三代人。

In the field of biological sciences, techniques of the analysis and separation of biological macromolecules are making immeasurable contribution. Not a small number of such techniques have been developed through efforts of the scientists in Uppsala, Sweden, based on creative concepts fostered there. These scientists are referred to as the Uppsala School of Separation Science. The head investigator of the present project, Prof.Toshio Takagi became interested in the tradition of the Uppsala School a couple of decades ago, because his research field was and has been closely connected to separation science in biological science. He has already visited Uppsala twelve times, and fostered close friendship with the third and fourth generations of the School. Also here in Japan, we have many researchers involved and interested in the field of biological separation science.The present project was planned to enlarge the connection in the field between Japan, especially Osaka, and Uppsala. Under the support of the present research grant, several researchers on each of the sides were endowed with chances of visiting laboratories on the counterside for carrying out experiments, exchanging discussions and delivering seminars. The academic exchange resulted initiation of several cooperative research programs among the researchers involved.The present project continued only two years, but its aftereffect is believed to last very long, because it was planned to involve three generations on both sides.
