A study on large-scale civil engineering projects as a measureagainst disasters in early modern Japan : Focusing on the technology, labor and organization of Horeki river improvement.

本研究旨在探讨灾害与地方社会的关系。本研究的一个方面，包括分析集中在木曾河流域的堀木河改善（1754-55）项目。分析的结果表明，在大型土木工程项目的规划和实施中，地方社会的利益及其合作已经深深地卷入其中。除此之外，我们还指出，应当考虑劳动的组织和有关技术。

The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between disasters and local society. One aspect of this study includes an analysis focused on Horeki river improvement(1754-55) project held at the Kiso River basin. As a result of the analysis, we clarify that the interests of the local society and its cooperation have been deeply involved in the planning and implementing of large-scale civil engineering projects. In addition to this, we have pointed out that the organization of labor and related techniques should be considered.
