This PhD project aims to develop a novel nanofabrication approach using biological systems as foundries for the mass manufacture of nanomaterials and nanotechnology with sub-5nm features. The basis of the approach is DNA origami, where a long single-stranded loop of DNA is folded into a nano-structure. We then aim to use the unique sequences of base-pairs in the DNA to position metal and semiconducting materials with sub nm precision onto the DNA scaffold. Where, as a demonstrator, we will construct and test a DNA origami semiconductor transistor.
