Analysis and Modelling of Fuel Laundering Site using geospatial technology

Fuel laundering in Northern Ireland represents a substantial cost in lost revenue to HMRC and an even greater cost in damage to the environment and local government which shoulders the financial burden for cleaning these illegally discarded toxic by-products. This project will develop an extensive analysis of the available data from fuel laundering activity, leading to the design of a geospatial model for prediction of both undetected illegal waste dumping locations, laundering facilities, and response planning. This model will consider many geospatial variables in an intuitive Multi-criteria Analysis (MCA), exploitation of Earth observation (EO) datasets (including Hyper-Spectral and SAR); Water quality studies and the training of an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) using the record of discovered dumping sites and laundering facilities.
