Two Latin American Anarchists: Salvadora Medina Onrubia and Patricia Galvao (Pagu)

It seems that the more politically active a woman, the less likely she is to be incorporated into the canon. This has been the fate of Salvadora Medina Onrubia (1894-1972) from Argentina, and Patricia Galvao, known as Pagu, (1910-1962) from Brazil. Due to the relative lack of comparative work between Argentina and Brazil, it is perhaps no surprise that the literary output of both women has never been looked at together. This area of comparison, possibly due to cultural and linguistic reasons, remains underdeveloped. Examples exist; Garramuno (2009) and, more generally, Roberto Schwarz and Jens Andermann. However, my contribution will expand the intellectual reach of this field, placing the issue of gender at its centre.
