Lithium-ion battery test and simulation under various loading

The project will works on developing electro-chemo-mechanical models to simulate and predict battery performance under different application scenarios. The student will incorporate new physical phenomena (e.g., space-charging, phase change, grain-size effects, and solid elasticity) into the standard theory of multicomponent electrolyte transport. Simulations based on the new model will be compared with experimental data gathered from battery testers. Simulations will use in-house code as well as open-source and commercial software. Parallel computing will be delivered on high-performance clusters. Experiments will use battery testers to measure the open-circuit voltage and mechanical response during battery charging/discharging.
