英文摘要
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Formation of amyloid fibrilar deposits occurs in a number of diseases and also appears to occur as a natural cause of certain epi-genetic changes of phenotype in yeast. Evidence that formation of amyloid seems to be generic to polypeptide chains suggests that the ability to identify specific positions in a protein sequence involved in oligomerization will allow a closer analysis of the underlying mechanism for amyloid formation in general, which is of interest in a large range of contexts, including major impacts on human health such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
