An intergrated waste treatment and nutrient recovery system

本研究项目的长期总体目标是为生物资源行业开发高效和具有成本效益的废物处理/利用系统，重点是营养物质回收的新技术，近期目标总结如下：1)生物处理工艺：目标是：1)开发一种能够处理高强度废水的创新处理系统；2)研究生物脱氮（BNR）工艺，整合脱氮和增强型生物脱磷（EBPR）工艺；3)进一步开发和完善实时自动化监控系统；4)研究困难但具有挑战性的同步硝化和硝化（SND）工艺；5)利用ORP信号控制或减少硝化。2)通过结晶回收养分：目标将包括：1)提高各种结晶工艺的有效性和回收率；2)研究使用其他可能的结晶产品，如磷酸钾镁（KMP，或k -鸟粪石）和/或磷酸钙，以优化养分回收。3)固体和污泥管理：目标是：1)研究有机固体和污泥的解聚和营养物的增溶；2)污泥消毒研究；4)微波强化深度氧化工艺（MW-AOP）：目标包括：1)开发新的微波强化废水处理工艺；2)研究利用微波和其他氧化剂释放/回收有机浆料中的营养物质；3)研究有机浆料中有机悬浮物的破坏；4)评估MW-AOP的流程效率、成本效益和经济效益；5)探索该工艺在其他领域的潜在应用。

The overall long-term goal of this research program is to develop efficient and cost-effective waste treatment/utilization systems for the bio-resource industry, with emphasis on new technologies for nutrient recovery, the short term goals are summarized as follows:1) Biological Treatment Processes: The objectives are: 1) to develop an innovative treatment system capable of handling high strength wastewaters; 2) to study biological nutrient removal (BNR) processes, integrating both nitrogen removal and enhanced biological phosphorous removal (EBPR) processes; 3) to further develop and enhance the real-time automated monitoring and control system; 4) to investigate the difficult, but challenging, simultaneous nitrification and nitrification (SND) processes; and 5) to use the ORP signals to control or to minimize nitrification.2) Nutrient Recovery by Crystallization: The objectives will include: 1) to enhance the effectiveness and recovery rates of various crystallization processes; and 2) to study the use of other possible crystallization products, such as potassium magnesium phosphate (KMP, or K-struvite) and/or calcium phosphate, to optimize nutrient recovery.3) Solids and Sludge Management: The objectives are: 1) to study organic solids and sludge de-polymerization and nutrient solubilization; 2) to investigate sludge disinfection; 3) to explore composting processes using an in-vessel system, which has been made available to UBC.4) Microwave enhanced advanced oxidation process (MW-AOP):  The objectives include:  1) to develop new microwave enhanced wastewater treatment processes; 2) to conduct a study on the use of microwave and other oxidants for the release/recovery of nutrients from organic slurries; 3) to study the destruction of organic suspended solids in organic slurries; 4) to evaluate process efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and economic benefits of the MW-AOP; and 5) to explore potential applications of this process to other areas.
