Prosthetic reconstruction of the head for improving function and aesthetics can result in tremendous improvements in the quality of life for patients. For these applications, skin penetrating titanium implants are used as a foundation for the reconstruction. This project's aim is to continue the development of a system that can monitor the status of the interface between these titanium implants and the bone. This is done by tapping the implant and using an instrumented tapping rod to measure the response of the implant system. Analysis of the response allows the clinician to understand how the implant is healing and if there needs to be some intervention during its working life.
