Enzymes are the chemical factories of life. However, their use in industry and medicine is limited as it has been difficult to control enzymes outside the living cell. Here, we will develop a new groundbreaking approach for controlling enzymes, using light of different colours and electricity to switch different enzymes on or off on demand.
