Emergency funds (Total cost : $40,113 CAN+3.41% tax=$41,482; NSERC Contribution : $31,482) are requested to replace a Nicolet Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer. The existing Magna 560 instrument was purchased in 1993 to support our research into organic films under ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions. It had operated reliably within specifications for ~17 years, in large part because of the preventative maintenance and upgrades that have been applied. Over the past 16 months, however, this instrument has increasingly suffered from electronic and mechanical failures; this has caused increasing time losses, and unreliable experimental data.
