Echosec is a software company based in Victoria, BC that provides an innovative Web-based tool for visualizing social media posts layered with related information based on geographical locations of interest. It uses high-quality map-based visualizations and relies on geo-tagging and semantic relationships to allow their users to easily and efficiently search and explore massive amounts of social media data with no required geo-informatics or data-science experience. It offers integrations with over 10 social media feeds, alerts and notifications (when a post of interest occurs), and real-time visualization of events. This tool is used by large public safety organizations, private security companies, and journalists to investigate and explore events and geographical regions of interest. Map-based visualizations are used to bring novel insights about specific events, to inform decisions, or to provide context to situational awareness needs, such as using Tweets during disaster management to target support services to certain areas.
