The use of nanoscale electrodes in electrochemical devices such as glucose sensors is required to address the evolving need for continuous health monitoring devices and wearable sensors. Real time and continuous quantification of biomolecules and disease markers leads to better health management, reduced complications, improved quality of life for the patients and reduced health costs. Electrochemical devices with such ability are therefore required for, the rapidly ageing population and reducing health costs. Nanoscale electrodes with rapid response and stabilization time, high signal to noise ratio and ability for detection in small sample volumes will be developed and applied as electrochemical sensors as a part of this project. The nanoscale electrodes made by simple self-assembly and bio-compatible ions such as calcium and magnesium and gold nanoparticles are bio-compatible and low cost. Development of commercial electrochemical devices based on this nanoelectrode will be done by the industrial partner Medella Health.
