This engage grant will be used by Prof. Maheshwari's group to collaborate with NERv and develop a cost-effective chip that will be used specifically for detection of bacterial infection in peritoneal cavity. The chip will be developed using the cell-based graphene sensors that have been researched in Prof. Maheshwari's group. Detection of such bacterial infections is crucial to post-operative monitoring where during an operation the sterile peritoneal cavity is exposed to the external environment and surgical tools that can lead to infection, complications and even patient deaths.
