Cyber Resilience for Networks

Bio-inspired approaches to network security are garnering increasing attention from both industry andacademia. As the information security community searches for new defense strategies, researchers aredeveloping algorithms and mathematical models to create network configurations that can adapt autonomouslyto their environments. This research will investigate robust and flexible architectural solutions able to scale tothe information and processing required by massive influxes of data. Extrapolating from work done onmodeling signaling pathways in normal and cancer cells where both types of cells show resilience as well asidentifying targets for attacking cancer cells, we intend to identify architectures and mechanisms that guaranteeuninterrupted functioning in the presence of adversity. We will apply our research into drug inhibition insignaling pathways, testing our algorithms and mathematical model in that context, to cyber resiliency incomputer networks. Canada needs effective cyber security for the protection of individuals, industry andgovernment. We are proposing research to place Canada at the forefront of the next generation in effectivecyber security systems.
