Sanofi Pasteur is developing novel vaccine products, which contain antigens adsorbed to different types ofadjuvants. Characterization and comprehensive analysis of the antigen-adjuvant interactions is of greatimportance for this development. Traditional ways of characterization, however do not allow measurement ofmolecular forces acting between reagents on molecular level which is of key importance. The proposed new collaboration between Sanofi Pasteur and Dr.Zoya Leonenko's laboratory at the Universityof Waterloo has a goal to characterize adjuvant-antigen interactions by advanced biophysical methods, such asAtomic force microscopy, atomic force spectroscopy, and surface plasmon resonance, which would enhancethe knowledge of the forces involved in such interactions and would help in the understanding of the relevanceof the strength of antigen adsorption to adjuvants in Sanofi Pasteur's vaccine products. This new knowledgewill lead to new product development and will help to accelerate pharmaceutical research by providing anadvanced vaccine thus will contribute to the improvement of health of Canadian and worldwide community.
