The project studies and analyzes the effects of motion Visually Evoked Potentials (mVEP) extracted from Electrophysiological (EEG) signals for potential incorporation in gaming and assistive Brain Computer Interface (BCI) systems based on augmented reality (AR) headgears. Traditionally, BCI systems utilize EEG-based steady-state visually evoked potential (SSVEP), which use light-flashing or pattern reversal methods, wherein the changes in luminance contrast generate higher harmonic peaks in the processed EEG response. However, continuous high-intensity contrast changes are uncomfortable to users causing visual fatigue and inducing migraines and seizures. The project explores Motion-oriented Visual Evoked Potentials (mVEP) as an alternate trigger mechanism to develop BCI for a speech generating device. Our industry partner is Cognixion, a leading company advancing BCI devices and the associated AR technologies to provide an alternative communication framework for enriching human connections.******
