Driver Cognition and Automated Driving

Automated driving necessitates a mutual understanding and safe collaboration between human driver and autonomous system, particularly during critical scenarios. This CRC program aims at advancing the science in driver cognition and decision making and developing cutting-edge technology innovations in driver-automation collaboration. Social concerns in automated driving decision making will also be investigated. These will be addressed in a cross-disciplinary manner involving engineering, computer science, cognitive psychology, and philosophy. The research will contribute not only to enhancing the safety and performance of automated vehicles, but also to advancing the science and understanding of driver cognition and decision making during automated driving.
