GL-Chemtech is a biomanufacturing company that specializes in polymer and biomaterial synthesis. To expand the manufacturing capability and complete the production process from raw materials to final products, GL-Chemtech is interested in developing advanced manufacturing techniques to automate the production of synthetic scaffolds from synthesized polymer solutions. Additive manufacturing, also called 3D printing, is a promising approach to automate the manufacturing of medical devices with complex structures, such as bio-scaffolds. Build on our expertise on the biofabrication of bioscaffold and industrial-scale polymer synthesis, a 3D printing process and a formulation of inks will be optimized. This proposal will evaluate whether synthetic biodegradable bioscaffolds can be 3D printed to facilitate a cost-effective production process. 3D printing will also allow easy design change. Therefore, success in this project could lead to additional future applications with this biomaterial. ****
