The overall aim is to increase our understanding of the interaction between vegetation pigments, biochemistry and forest stand structure and how remote sensing technologies can be used to estimate forest vegetation properties across spatial and temporal scales. My first objective focuses on short and long term pigment changes due to the xanthophyll cycle, and seasonally changing pigment pool cycles. Second, I will use Light Detection and Ranging data, forest architecture models to measure and model vertical light regimes and finally, examine if existing forest models can be modified to incorporate dynamic estimates of light use efficiency.
