The Canada-France international partnership will leverage the complementary expertise of the team members in materials synthesis and characterization, and solar cell fabrication and testing for ultimately developing efficient solar cells. By establishing accurate relationships of the role of molecular structure on the optoelectronic properties, the France-Canada team will develop a clear understanding of the molecular requirements for developing efficient solar cells. This knowledge will be leveraged to rationally design and prepare new materials that can potentially be used to develop solar cells that have higher performances and increased portability compared to current products. Adopting these technologies can position Canada as a leader in sustainable and clean electricity. It will also provide a sustainable solution for tackling a problem of global importance: reducing climate changing pollution from dirty electricity generation and moving towards net-zero emission electricity generation. The portability of efficient solar cells can potentially improve both the quality of life to residents in remote regions and their environment by providing continuous, clean, and sustainable electricity that is produced uniquely from sunlight without being reliant on fossil fuel generators.
